Great Camanoe is a private, completely residential island that has no shops, restaurants or business, just lots of peace and tranquility. After many years of serving as a site for sugar, cotton, and indigo plantations in the 1800's, the island was uninhabited until about fifty years ago when two small communities of residential, mostly vacation, homes were begun. Some interesting ruins and gravesites still remain from the past.
What better way to give you a flavour of what its like to live on Great Camanoe than to give you the stories of the pioneering families that have done just that!
