It is believed in the mid-1700's that Great Camanoe was the site of several plantations, producing a variety of crops, from cotton to sugar cane to indigo. Historical records suggest that the island was also the site of a rare, pre-emancipation, freed slave community.
In 1969, the Waldschmidt family from the United States, purchased the Estate with dreams of establishing a community of like minded people, looking for an escape from their hectic lives in the 'real world'. Today, there are twenty four homes within the Estate.
A small number of additional homesites have now been made available for purchase. Each offers its own simply spectacular ocean and island views, some providing glorious sunrises, whilst others provide breathtaking sunsets. Each one is large enough to provide complete privacy and serenity.
